Getting Around Banff

Rent a car, hire a taxi, take a tour or hop on a bus from the airport. In Banff there are several options to get around town. Roam the public transit, car tour with your own GPS guide, enjoy horse-drawn carriages or rent a bike. Many hotels offer a complimentary shuttle service for guests.

Pick up a map or a bus schedule at the Banff or Lake Louise Visitor Information Centres or from your hotel’s concierge.

There is a bus service run by the town which runs approximately every 40 minutes into Banff. Fare is $2 per person. The bus operates daily from 6:35am until 11:15pm. See the concierge desk for a town bus schedule which is subject to change without notice.

 


Banks

Tourists visiting Banff are able to use their credit and debit cards at ATMs, which can be found almost everywhere, providing a convenient way to exchange currency. Most banks in Banff open between Monday and Friday, although their opening hours are slightly shorter than regular shops and stores in Banff.

Certificates of attendance will be issued with the registration and information package upon arrival at the meeting.

 


Climate & Clothing

Weather in the Canadian Rockies is unpredictable – at best. It’s possible to have sunshine, snow, wind or rain – all in the same day.

Summers are pleasant, with low humidity, warm temperatures averaging a high of 21C (70F) and daylight hours stretching until 11 p.m. in June and July.

 


Languages

The official language of the Conference will be English. We do not foresee to offer simultaneous translation.

 


Liability

The Canadian Urological Association, its Organizing Committees and Professional Congress Organizer shall not be held liable for personal accidents or losses or damage to private property of registered participants of the 2012 Annual Meeting.

 


Sales Taxes

Goods and Services

There is no provincial sales tax in the province of Alberta, where Banff and Lake Louise are located, but there is a 5 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) charged on the sale of all products and services in Canada.

Accommodations

All accommodation in Banff is subject to a taxable 2% Tourism Improvement Fee. Accommodation in Alberta is subject to a 4% Provincial Room Tax.

 


Tipping

Tipping in Banff is generally expected and many restaurants hope to receive around 10 to 15 per cent of the bill as a tip, although a number of eateries now automatically include service charges on the bill. Taxi drivers, barbers, hairdressers and hotel staff in Banff also expect tips, however small.
