Local Organizing Committee

It has been 12 years since the CUA Annual Meeting’s last visit to Nova Scotia’s capital city, and there have been many changes in Halifax during that time. If you haven’t been here recently, but think you know Halifax and have seen all there is to see, you are going to be in for a SURPRISE. Sure, it is still a beautiful coastal city with a compact downtown core, but the vibrant restaurant, bar, and music scenes are constantly evolving and on the leading edge of their respective categories.
Although we cannot guarantee perfect weather (but just wait 10 minutes if you don’t like it), we CAN guarantee that the social program will give you plenty of opportunity to experience Maritime hospitality. The Fun Night will start out at the award-winning historical museum Pier 21, which is the actual location where tens of thousands of immigrants first set foot on Canadian land. In fact, in the years 1928-1971, 20% of new Canadians arrived through these doors. You will have the opportunity to research your own family history. We will then move on to the obligatory lobster dinner at nearby Cunard Centre, followed by the chance to burn off some calories and display your best dance moves.
Details of the President’s banquet will be forthcoming at a later date, but we know that the view from the Marriott Harbourfront Hotel will be the backdrop for that lovely evening, and there will be no shortage of candidates to bagpipe the VIPs into the event.
June is typically a lovely time of year in Nova Scotia, so you may want to take a few days after the meeting to explore some of the nearby sites and towns. You will not regret the decision. See you in Halifax in 2018!
