Invitation to Banff
The year was 1987, Dr. Malcolm McPhee was the CUA President, Dr. Said Awad was the Secretary and Dr. David Moors was Treasurer. Michael Douglas won an Academy Award for best actor in “Wall Street” and Sean Connery won best supporting actor for his role in “The Untouchables”. Michael Chetner on the other hand was a naive fourth year resident in Urology at the University of Alberta and the Annual CUA meeting was held at the Banff Springs Hotel (then a Canadian Pacific Hotel).
Fast forward to June 2012, 25 years later the Banff Springs Hotel is still one of the jewels in the now Fairmont Hotel chain and again the CUA annual Meeting is being held at this magnificent property in one of the most spectacular places in the world!

Banff National Park
Canada’s first national park is about 1 1/2 hours’ drive west of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. From Banff’s humble beginnings as a 26 square kilometre hot springs reserve, Banff National Park now consists of 6,641 square kilometres of unparalleled mountain scenery nestled in the heart of the magnificent Canadian Rockies.
Each year, millions of visitors come to Banff to marvel at the emerald waters of Lake Louise, walk amongst the flower-filled heavens at Sunshine Meadows, and drive beneath the towering jagged peaks lining the Icefields Parkway. Snow-capped peaks, glistening glaciers and sweeping vistas are just one part of the allure of Banff National Park.
